Mobilize is a place where we recap the big idea of the sermon and give some next steps, as you grow in letting God’s word transform your life.
This week we had a guest speaker, Lisa Espineli Chinn, who helped us connect with God’s mission and our place in it by looking at John 4.
Here are some highlights from the sermon:
- “What in the world are you doing?” was a phrase Lisa used many times to engage parts of the text that would have been jarring for the 1st century readers. She also used the phrase to point out that God was doing something bigger than the disciples expected. And then Lisa used the phrase to help us connect with several mission stories where God’s Kingdom moved forward in unexpected ways like the story of Robert Jaffray, Hope International, and the Handful of Rice.
- Lisa gave us a great and practical definition for missions: Following Jesus in fulfilling the will of the Father through the power of the Holy Spirit. This definition helps us see how to consider partnering well with professional missionaries but also help us understand our place in joining God in his mission to win the world back to himself.
Action steps for our week together:
- We are called to be discipled by the Spirit and Word. Spend time in our passage this week-John 4. What is the Spirit saying to you through the text?
- Consider these things with your community this week.
- How can you live a life where folks around you may ask: What in the world is God doing?
- Consider these three words in response to the sermons:
- Reassess– Maybe your job is too small? Where could you spend money differently? What might your handful of rice be?
- Relocate– Maybe God is asking you to move locations or jobs to be on mission with him?
Remain– Where can you be faithful to what God is doing in the place God has planted you?
