Mobilize is a place where we recap the big idea of the sermon and give some next steps, as you grow in letting God’s word transform your life. Maurice Dent from Gate City Church preached out Luke 6, looking at the moment Jesus called the 12 to be his disciples.
Here are some highlights from the sermon:
- Maurice encouraged us to learn how to question God- especially when we are studying scripture. God can handle our questions and Jesus shows us in the Gospels that God is open to honest conversation with people who are trying to know him.
- When Maurice studies this section of Luke 6 he does wonder why these 12 men. Out of everyone Jesus could have chosen called why did he pick these 12 and in particular- Why would Jesus pick Judas- the traitor? And Jesus didn’t just pick Judas- he loved Judas!
- We were to encourage to consider how following Jesus will mean encountering our own Judas type folk because Judas’s are inevitable and actually nessaccary for us to follow Jesus effectively and become the men and women he is calling us to be.
Action steps for our week together:
- We are called to be discipled by the Spirit and Word. Spend time in our passage this week-Luke 6:12-16. What is the Spirit saying to you through the text?
- Consider these things with your community this week.
- Consider someone in your life who is like Judas- how can you see the Spirit using that person in your life to make you more dependent on Jesus and more like Jesus. Do you see the Spirit using you in that person’s life?
How are you like Judas- a traitor to Jesus and his Kingdom? Take time to consider how Jesus chose you to be his follower and loved you, even though you are prone to wander and forget him.
