Mobilize is a place where we recap the big idea of the sermon and give some next steps, as you grow in letting God’s word transform your life.
We finished up our series Redefining Us this week and saw the beautiful conclusion to the book of Ruth.
Here are some highlights:
- A BOLD PLAN-Naomi proposes a risky plan for Ruth to go and ask Boaz to marry her. Ruth does exactly what her mother-in-law suggests and puts herself in a very vulnerable situation in order to secure a future for herself and Naomi.
- A NOBLE CHARACTER-Again we see how Boaz’s commitment to follow the Spirit of God’s law leads to Ruth and Naomi being cared for, both that night on the threshing floor, but also the next morning as Ruth goes home with an arm full of Barley and Boaz goes to the city gates to work out a solution for these two women.
- A GREAT BLESSING-The book ends with Boaz announcing his intentions to marry Ruth and the elders blessing Ruth! We also learn that they quickly become pregnant and give birth to a son, Obed. This son becomes Naomi’s future and the future grandfather to King David- from whom we get the promised Rescue Hero- Jesus!
Action steps for our week together:
- We are called to be discipled by the Spirit and Word. Spend time in our passage this week-Ruth 3-4. Marshall showed us how the Gospel Framework: God Created, Sin Broke, Jesus Rescues, The Spirit Empowers, & God Restores was found in the book of Ruth. Spend time this week reading Ruth and jot down every verse where you see a part of the framework.
- Consider these things with your community this week:
- How is God using the story of Naomi, Ruth and Boaz to redefine your story with Him?
- Where might the Spirit be inviting you to live boldly with noble character (being obedient to the God’s law and Spirit) on your street, at your workplace, in your family, at your school?
