Thoughts on MLK DAY 2022 from Pastor Marshall Benbow… I have been reading through Ezekiel on my own, since we will be studying it together as a church, and today in Ezekiel 22 I read this: 29 The people of the land practice extortion and commit robbery; they oppress the poor and needy and mistreat the foreigner, denying them justice. 30 “I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one. The New International Version (Grand Rapids, MI: Zondervan, 2011), Eze 22:29–30. I immediately thought of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, who WAS one who chose to stand in the gap for justice. Dr. King not only stood in the gap, he inspired and invited others to join him, and our world is a much different and better place because of his sacrificial leadership. As I read Ezekiel 22, I was so thankful for Dr. King’s example, and so thankful that he was a fellow Christ follower. My prayer is that we, as the Family of Christ, would follow Spirit’s leadership in standing for justice and righteousness as signposts to the Kingdom of God, and that we would honor the image of God that is in each and every person that He has created. |
